Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman (1998-The Present) Amanda Gorman grew up in the Los Angeles area with her mother who was a single parent and a schoolteacher. She had a communication disorder and attended speech classes for many years to become better at articulation and public speaking. She attended Harvard University and has written extensively as a young adult to express herself and raise awareness to the beauty of poetry and the spoken word. She became the first National Youth Poet Laureate in 2017 and in 2021 delivered her poem, ‘The Hill We Climb’ at the Presidential inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

I typed her portrait because I am always impressed by young people who overcome challenges and work to develop their talents. Amanda Gorman is charting new territory as a poet and as a voice for young people. She is an inspiring young woman who is both beautiful and full of unique talent. She sees the world from a fresh new perspective and has the gift of words to inspire others to have hope in the future.
